Our Last Overseas Guests

Our last overseas guests before lockdown

Our last overseas guests before the lockdown

Covid-19, Day 14 , Wednesday, 8 April 2020

This lovely young couple on honeymoon over here from the UK, were our last guests to stay before the lock down. They were really nervous about flying home and we totally felt for them. They would love to be living here in New Zealand, and I can tell you they are such a lovely couple. They were some of the lucky ones having spent a couple of weeks touring around New Zealand, and they totally appreciated it!

The majority of our guests have been visitors from overseas. So, we need to be prepared to make some changes going forward, like virtually all other providers in the tourism industry. We have had a lot of guests from the UK and from America. Needless to say, there have been various conversations about our leaders throughout the course of their stay! I do believe, we’re coming up trumps, now more so than ever before! No pun intended!

family

And on the family front, on my side, number 4 is set up with plenty of entertainment games, it’s a nice break from plumbing, he's spending time with his partner so he’s fine; number 3 is living in Berlin and is finally having to work from home, (I still keep crossing my fingers he doesn’t get the virus, no point in worrying over stuff you have no control over!)Number 2 is working flat out as a financial advisor with two young, (very active), pre-schoolers around his feet, while number one is balancing her older kids at home for the duration with strict screen time rules, and plenty of outside time. From what I can see, she is juggling getting the home chores done with keeping the real estate going, as the deals are being finalised online. There must be so many families around New Zealand at this present time who are juggling working from home and kids.

Dave’s daughter number 1 lives in Queensland with her husband and three daughters. Conversations have been compared on frequent occasions on how each government has been handling the situation. I do believe there were times they wished they were back in New Zealand where the guidelines were very clear as to what you can and cannot do. It has been a really good time for Dave to spend a bit more time on the phone talking with his daughters. The other five daughters are all in Auckland, one is self-employed in the beauty industry and is like many, not able to work. Another has a very new baby and a toddler so that household is busy, while there’s another two daughters with a child each, and they have been working out how best their bubbles will work so they can support one another. There’s another daughter who lives on her own and keeps in touch on the phone regularly.

It keeps us in touch with the real world, communicating with our kids!

Covid Wrap

50 new cases were announced today, 12 in hospital including 4 who are in intensive care. Yesterday was the first day that the number of recoveries have outnumbered the number of new cases. A bit of a milestone really.

It’s certainly a very different world we are living in, but we’re lucky here in our little corner of Pare-dise!
